Ongoing - Every Monday in Santa Barbara since 2014
The language of thieves, by Ale
The Lyrics of tango are not just in Spanish. They are in a particular form of the language spoken in the Rio De La Plata, originally by thieves and lowlifes called Lunfardo. Over time, everybody ended up using Lunfardo, and Tango lyricists made a point of proudly showcasing it.
Now Lunfardo is a matter for distinguished academics, such as Ale’s departed friend José A. Martínez Suárez, member of Academia del Lunfardo, with whom she shared many hours of happy conversation back in Buenos Aires.
From 7:00 to 7:20, we will go over the lyrics of a couple of tangos to showcase the beauty of the language and uncover their meaning. Dancing afterwards.
All Levels are welcome. Help will always be given to those who ask for it by your friendly neighborhood Tango Dancers.
